Why are we still building developments that costume themselves as objects?
There is a trend in modern real estate press championing developments shaped literally like everyday items — buildings built to resemble gigantic shuttlecocks, fish, or musical instruments.
While novelty makes for easy social media content, serious architecture and interior design must prioritize function, local climate response, spatial efficiency, and long-term durability.
When the gimmick becomes the main design driver, two major problems arise: first, resources are diverted away from solving core engineering, thermal, and spatial problems. Second, interior spaces end up awkwardly shaped and expensive to maintain.
At Xtian Interiors and Architects, our focus for commercial interiors and architecture across Kampala is rooted in spatial intelligence, operational performance, and authentic aesthetic rigor — creating spaces built to last and generate real business value.
If a design concept cannot survive the test of function, climate, and daily utility, it isn't architecture — it's set dressing. It's cosplay.
